Intelligence Unit designated the Netherlands as the best
country to locate new business in the coming years due to
its outstanding infrastructure, favorable tax climate, stable
political climate, and easy access to capital. And even within
these very good business conditions, the province of Utrecht
stands out in many ways over other provinces in the Netherlands.
Top European performer
The economic performance of the province of Utrecht is particularly
impressive. Employment in the Netherlands as a whole has
increased by a healthy 17% over the last six years – but
in Utrecht employment has
increased by 30% in the same period! The province can easily
compete with other top European business locations. A comparison
of average GDP per capita in
211 European regions puts it in the top ten.
Future potential
Utrecht is not just a quality performer at the moment, the
forecast for the future is also very strong. An April 2002
survey by the Cologne Forschungsinstitut, comparing the
overall quality of life, current conditions and economic
potential of 214 European cities and regions, ranked Utrecht
at #2!
